TIPS FOR SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL

1. HELP REDUCE PLASTIC CONSUMPTION

When traveling, bring along an empty reusable water bottle! Each of our floors features a communal pantry, home a water refill station with both still and sparkling water. Pro tip: Save space in your luggage and use it as a storage container for small items, snacks, and more.

When staying with us, don’t worry about purchasing disposable travel-sized bath products. Our friends at Lunaroma supply us with refillable shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion bottles in each room.

2. PACK MINDFULLY

When pieces together the puzzle of a well-packed suitcase, think ahead about weather, travel needs, and other details of your trip! The goal: while on your trip avoid purchasing cheap, temporary solutions that you’ll either dispose of after travel or bring home and rarely use again. We mean umbrellas, water bottles, sunglasses, flip flops, and more.

3. EXPLORE THE CITY ON BIKE

During the warmer months, our we have complimentary, custom-made Budnitz Bicycles to rent! Visit our Activities Ambassador for rentals and recommended trails. The Burlington Bike Path is ever-growing! Pedal by the waterfront for views of Lake Champlain and even stop by some of our beaches for an afternoon dip. Make a day out of it and bike the entire Colchester Causeway, just over 10 miles out and back, for a breezy ride with water on both sides.

4. EAT LOCAL FOOD

Vermont is fortunate to have an incredible network of local farmers and producers offer fresh produce, meat, cheese, and more. When food is sourced locally, it is not only supporting these small producers, but it is reducing shipping distances that contribute to a larger footprint.

Juniper, our in-house restaurant, prioritizes sourcing our food locally and our menu is driven by what is seasonally available year round. We know we are working with ethical and high-quality providers. Explore just a few of our long-time friends and partners, here.

5. SHOWER POWER

Studies show that we are likely to use 2.5 times as much water while we are traveling than at home. We kindly ask you to be conscious of how much time you’re spending rinsing off. Can you keep it under 5 minutes?

Reuse your towels! On average, a bath towel can be used 3 times after a shower before it needs to be washed. We have implemented our Tidy Up service in an effort to reduce the frequency of this washing cycle. Fresh towels can always be requested, but we ask you to make an effort to hang towels to dry after one use so they can be used again the next day!
